World Poker Tour Pinball Overview

Stern released this game in February 2006. It is based on the World Poker Tour show from the Travel Channel. The machine uses the voices and images of commentators Vince Van Patten and Mike Sexton, and show host Courtney Friel.

You travel from city to city playing Texas Hold ‘Em until you reach the final table. The dot-matrix display shows your hole cards and the community cards as the hand plays out. A second game, 5 Card Stud, asks you to hit cards on sixteen drop targets to build poker hands such as a pair or three of a kind.

Brian Rood created the poker-themed art. The game also has a second-level playfield and a “mousetrap” ball lock for multiball.

Key Features of World Poker Tour

  • Two poker games: Texas Hold ‘Em and 5 Card Stud.
  • Four flippers: extra flippers open up more shots.
  • Second-level playfield: adds a mini “poker table” with its own targets and flipper.
  • Mousetrap ball lock: sets up exciting multiball play.
  • Two ramps and two spinners: keep the ball moving fast.
  • Three pop bumpers: add action in the middle of the playfield.
  • TV show voices: Vince Van Patten, Mike Sexton and Courtney Friel guide your game.
  • S.A.M. electronics: the first Stern game to use this system.
